9:30-10:30 am “Mixing Profit with Progress: Pennsylvania Capitalists with a Social Conscience”
— Dr. Michael McGovern, professor of history at Northampton Community College, will introduce you to Pennsylvania’s first social entrepreneurs and the legacies they left.

11 am-12:15 pm “Pursue Your Happiness in Pennsylvania”
— Carrie Fischer Lepore, deputy secretary of Pennsylvania’s Office of Marketing, Tourism, and Film, will talk about the history and evolution of Pennsylvania’s slogans, and updates on the commonwealth’s multi-faceted approach to marketing Pennsylvania to business and visitors.

Her office, part of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, was responsible for reviving the Pennsylvania tourism brand in 2016 with the slogan “Pursue Your Happiness.”

She and her team promote the state’s history, unique small towns, and outdoor activities. She also leads economic development marketing initiatives, promoting the advantages of doing business in Pennsylvania.

12:30-1:30 pm “Seed of a Nation: The Social Entrepreneurship of William Penn”
— Doug Miller, director of Pennsbury Manor, William Penn”s home along the Delaware River in Bucks County, will explain why the founder of Pennsylvania may have been the first social entrepreneur.

Pennsbury Manor is owned and administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, a Commonwealth agency.
